EFCC arraigns man in Maiduguri N12m inheritance scam case

Isyaku Ibrahim, also known as Alhaji Isyaku, was arraigned by the Maiduguri Regional Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before Judge Umaru Fadawu of the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri on Monday, July 3, 2023. Ibrahim), on one amended charge of criminal misappropriation amounting to N12,000,000.00 (twelve million naira).

The charge reads as follows: “You, Ishiyaku Ibrahim (aka Alhaji Ishiyaku Ibrahim), at some time between 2014 and 2019, were entrusted with the administration of the Belonging to Muhammad Ishiyaku (now deceased), namely: (1) three houses, (2) two fenced plots of land, one of which has seven shops, (3) two bakeries, (4) an empty lot, (5) Generators worth N12,000,000.00 (Twelve Million Naira) were installed in two tanker trucks and (6) large trucks, illegally misappropriating the said amount for personal use to the detriment of the family of the deceased, and thus committing the Violations of Sections 308 and 309 shall be punished under Sections 308 and 309 of the Penal Code of Borno State (Volume 3, Chapter 102, 1994).”

The defendant pleaded “not guilty” to the charges against him.

In light of his guilty plea, prosecution lawyer S.O Saka asked the court to remand the accused in prison and fix a trial date.

Judge Fadaou thereafter remanded the accused in custody and adjourned the trial until July 12, 2023.
