EFCC Arrests Two Officials for Misappropriating N289 Million in Katsina State

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested two government officials in Katsina State for misappropriating funds amounting to N289 million.

The arrested officials are Sa’idu Maiwada, who is the Sub Treasurer, and Sani Lawal BK, who is the Deputy Accountant General at the office of the Accountant General in Katsina State.

According to Wilson Uwujaren, the EFCC spokesperson, the officials were arrested in front of the state’s treasury building for their involvement in fraudulent activities that cost the government over N289 million.

The suspects have been charged with five counts of fraud and have pleaded not guilty. The Chief Magistrate, Musa Danladi, has adjourned the case to July 24, 2023, for further hearing.

This incident underscores the importance of proper financial management in government institutions. It is essential to have effective measures in place to prevent fraud and corruption, and those responsible for such illegal activities must face the consequences of their actions.

The EFCC’s continued efforts to eradicate financial crimes in Nigeria are commendable, and we urge the government to provide the necessary support to ensure their success in combating corruption and promoting accountability.
