The Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Kashim Shettima, has stated that it is not possible for a Northern Muslim to become the President of the Senate at the moment.

During a recent meeting with Senators in Abuja, Shettima expressed his intention to rally support from his colleagues to back Senate Minority Leader Godswill Akpabio (APC-Akwa-Ibom) and Senator Barau Jibrin (APC-Kano) in their bid for the Senate Presidency race.

The Chief Whip said, “I will rally my colleagues to support our Candidates for the Senate Presidency. It is unlikely for a Northern Muslim to win the race at the moment. This is a reality that we must accept.”

As Nigeria prepares for its general elections next year, the political landscape is starting to take shape, and jostling has begun within political parties for key positions. The race for the Senate Presidency is one of the most vital positions, as it plays a critical role in Nigeria’s democracy.
