APC national chief resigns as plan to oust him is being drawn up – sources

The party’s national chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, handed in his resignation last Sunday night, The Daily Trust reported.

A Daily Trust source confirmed that Adam, who becomes the party’s national chairman at the March 2022 national convention, has sent a letter of presidential resignation. President Bora Ahmed Tinub returned from an African Union (AU) meeting in Kenya in Abujawila.

One of the sources said former Nasarawa state governor Adamu sent a letter of resignation to Presidential Chief of Staff Femi Bajabiamila at around 4 pm last Sunday.

Furthermore, a source close to Adam also confirmed this, adding: “The party’s national chairman was informed that some party members close to the national president planned to hold party meetings tomorrow, Tuesday and Wednesday. After embarrassing him, he resigned.”

However, the source denied reports that President Tinu had asked Adam to resign ahead of the party’s National Executive Committee meeting tomorrow Tuesday and Wednesday.

One of the party’s founders said Adam resigned after receiving word before the meeting that two prominent figures close to the president were plotting against him.

“He resigned because they started plotting how to impeach him at the upcoming meeting. He resigned to avoid humiliation,” the veteran politician said.

When contacted, Adamou told the paper he would not comment on the matter until President Thinu returned from the AU meeting.
