Some 23,000 families received food aid during a food distribution in Baga Township, Kukawa Local Government, directly under the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Monday.

“Distributing humanitarian aid is one of President Bora Ahmed Tinub’s agenda. He (Tinub) has declared a state of emergency for food supply and in line with this policy, the Borno State Government is distributing food to the people. We have (today) provided food and non-food items to more than 20,000 men and women,” Zulum said.

Governor Zulum is committed to providing permanent livelihoods through the revival of commerce and agriculture, and he used to distribute food to beneficiaries who were unable to get enough food to feed them each year due to more than a decade of Boko Haram conflict.

23,000 families received one bag of rice, pasta and corn kernels each, and one bag each for women.

In Baga, 13,000 of the 4,000 male households each received a sack of rice and corn, and 9,000 women each received a large pasta and a roll.

In Cross Kauwa, about 1,500 male households received bags of rice and corn kernels and 2,000 women received large packages of pasta.

Borno Riot Committee Chairman Engineer Bukar Talba and State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Director Dr Barkindo Mohammad Saidu led officials to Baga last Sunday to start the distribution of supplies, and Zurum followed them on Monday morning and completed the drill.
