Teller and two others were jailed for the Kwara cybercrime

Yusuf Olkan Ibrahim, a 24-year-old court worker from Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area, Lagos State, has been found guilty of condoning cybercrime by the Ilorin Regional Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The Ilorin State High Court summoned Kwara Yusuf along with Abdulaziz Tawfeeq Ademola of Oyan and Udu Otin LGA in Osun State and Nuruddin Abdul Majeed of Lasogo L Udu Complex in Asa Elgarh in Kwara State. Judge Mahmoud Abdel-Jaafar was convicted.

Youssef, Abdulaziz and Noureddine pleaded guilty to separate charges against them during the trial.

The charges against Yusuf were as follows: “You, Yusuf Orakan Ibrahim, between May 2022 and November 2022, in Lorraine, Iraq, pretended to be Kerry, a woman residing in the United States Krissy Rivera, with a mobile phone number +16059499190 and Gmail account krissyrivera0@gmail.com and, under the guise of marketing to Keith, a man resident in the United States, sent him an Apple Gift Card in the amount of $375 (three hundred and seventy-five), thereby committing an offense under Section 321 of the Penal Code, punishable by Section 324 of the Penal Code.”

Article 2 of the charge against Abdulaziz reads: “You, Abdulaziz Tawfiq Ademola, knowingly control your secure bank account 0247893985 9,254,752 (only 9 million, 252,000, 754 naira) where you are located reasonable grounds to suspect that he obtained it unlawfully and is therefore committing an offense under Section 319(a) Section 1 of the Penal Code.”

The charges against Noureddine are as follows:
“You, Nuruddin Abdul Majeed, at some time in April 2023, in Ilorin, Kwara State, within the jurisdiction of this Honor Court, deceived Cole by impersonating Kelly Rockland B Miles, sent you $240 via Instagram, and committed an offense under Section 10 Section 321 of the Penal Code and punishable under Article 324 of the Code.”

During the trial, EFCC lawyer Mustafa Kejama called on the court to pay judicial attention to the defendant’s guilty plea and the conclusive evidence presented by the prosecution.

And in a ruling issued on Monday, July 10, 2023, Judge Abdul-Jaffa agreed that the prosecution acquitted the defendants, and then had reasons to convict them.

Accordingly, the judge sentenced the three defendants to six months in prison on probation.

In addition, Youssef ordered the federal government to confiscate his iPhone 12 Pro Max and $200 (two hundred dollars), while Abdulaziz also confiscated his iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone x, HP Laptop, MacBook, Toyota Camry and $100. ($1,000) of crimes committed by the federal government.

The court also ordered Noureddine to confiscate his iPhone 6 and $100 (one hundred dollars), as well as all proceeds of his illegal activities, to turn them over to the federal government.
