Another ‘Sugar Mummy’ star jailed in Kwara for cybercrime
On Tuesday, July 18, 2023, Francis Stephen Oke Eghele, 24, was sentenced by Ilorin Kwara State High Court Judge Adenike Akinpelu Guilty, charged with deceiving unsuspecting victims by posing as an American woman.
He committed similar offenses to Adeniyi Adekunle Aliyu from Ado Ekiti Iworoko, Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area, Ekiti State.
Francis and Adene were arraigned on separate charges by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ilorin Regional Command.
Clause 2 of the charge against Francis reads: “You, Stephen Oak Egler (aka Sugarmom), are in the jurisdiction of the Ilorin Court of Honor, Kwara State, on or sometime in July 2022 , attempting to include this information in your message.” Instagram account violating Section 95 of the Penal Code by impersonating and claiming to be a white woman named Sugarmom and having a relationship with a white man Oliver Pedrin: Sugarmomheater-0034 Article, will be punished under the laws of Uttar Pradesh Nigeria”
On the other hand, the details of the charges against Adeniyi are as follows: “You, Adeniyi Adkunle Aliyu, sometime in November 2022, in Kwara State under the jurisdiction of this Court of Honor Ilorin, when you pretended to be white, you were indeed deceived by impersonation. You have corresponded with Joe Maccreeary by a woman named Jessica Joanne at jessicaweaver9004@gmail.com to trick him into sending you via Google Play gift card Sending $200, thereby committing the crime of Article 321 Penalty stipulated in Article 324 of the Penal Code”
Both pleaded guilty to their respective charges.
Following the guilty plea, Anselm Ozioko (Jnr) and Isabel Adeniran, representing EFCC, urged the court to convict the accused based on his guilty plea and evidence presented.
In Justice Akinpelu’s sentencing, Francis was sentenced to six months’ jail for both counts 1 and 2, with the option to pay a fine of N100,000 (N100,000 only) for each count. The court also ordered the federal government to confiscate an Infinix phone used by criminals in the crime.
Likewise, Adeniyi was sentenced to six months in prison with an option to pay N200,000 (only N200,000). The court ordered the Nokia mobile phone, HP laptop and Infinix mobile phone used in the crime and confiscated N200,000 (only N200,000) that he had benefited from the illegal activities to the federal government.
