A coalition of influential organizations, including 18 youth associations, prominent professional groups, and civil society organizations (CSOs), has commended the proactive steps taken by Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), in addressing the fuel scarcity and related challenges following the recent fuel price adjustments.

This commendation comes amidst the backdrop of a series of challenges faced by the nation, as various stakeholder groups have rallied behind Mr. Kyari’s leadership in managing the fuel crisis. The situation has led to concerns, protests, and uncertainties across the nation.

Additionally, Nigeria’s major petroleum marketers, such as the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), have expressed their intent to cooperate in addressing the fuel scarcity issue.

Within our coalition of national interest groups, we have identified allegations of improprieties within the NNPC leadership, which include concerns regarding fuel price adjustments, fuel subsidy removal, petroleum importation, scarcity, and market price instability.

These issues affect the daily lives of Nigerians, as well as the livelihoods of market traders, business owners, and the economic stability of the country. They also have implications for the health of the nation’s economy.

These concerns are not limited to one specific group; they are common to all Nigerians, including fuel consumers, marketers, transport operators, and economic participants.

These challenges necessitate urgent and comprehensive actions from the government and NNPC leadership, which should address the welfare and interests of all Nigerians. The affected stakeholders include Nigerians across all walks of life, from low-income earners to entrepreneurs, who are all vital contributors to the nation’s economic growth.

Despite the difficulties we face, there is evidence of significant resources being misappropriated within NNPC, including allegations of fraudulent practices amounting to a staggering 2.1 trillion naira in unaccounted subsidies.

Therefore, there is a pressing need for Mele Kyari’s administration to take decisive steps to mitigate the fuel scarcity crisis and related concerns as soon as possible. It is essential to restore public trust and confidence in the NNPC’s operations and address the economic implications faced by Nigerians.

Mr. Kyari’s commitment to transparency and accountability in handling the fuel subsidy and other related matters is highly commendable. We look forward to the swift resolution of these challenges, restoring stability to the fuel supply chain, and ensuring that Nigerians do not face undue hardships due to fuel scarcity.

we emphasize the importance of addressing these issues with urgency and transparency, ensuring that the interests of all Nigerians are protected. By doing so, we can alleviate the hardships faced by the population and safeguard the nation’s economic stability.
