Trio convicted of cyber fraud, confiscation of N$7m and Ibadan cars

The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan convicted and sentenced three internet fraudsters, Yusuf Nurudeen Mayowa, Alloy Wisdom Chibuzor and Muheez Adeshina Ayomide, to varying degrees of imprisonment.

Yusuf was arraigned on one count of “Aiding a Felony Offense: Obtaining Property by False Pretence,” in violation of Sections 7(b) and 419 and A Yomid was arraigned on one count of impersonation, contrary to Section 484, Chapter 38, Penal Code, Oyo State Law 2000.

They all pleaded “guilty” to the charges brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibadan Regional Command after their trial by Judge Ladiran Akintola.

Accordingly, prosecution lawyers Samsuddeen Bashir and Mabas Mabur reviewed the case and submitted several documentary evidence which was admitted and marked as exhibits. They prayed for the court to convict and sentence the accused on the charges.

Judge Akintola was convicted and sentenced Yusuf to six months of community service and a fine of N200,000.00 (two hundred thousand naira), while Chibuzor and Ayomide were given three months of community service and N100, 000.00 (one hundred thousand naira) and N50, 000.00 respectively (50,000 naira) respectively is fine.

The court ordered Yusuf to forfeit to the Federal Government of Nigeria the sums of seven million, three hundred and fifty thousand and nine hundred and seventy-eight naira (N7, 305, 978) deposited in his surety trust bank account, account no. For: 0209559041. He also confiscated a Toyota Camry sedan, among other things.

The court also ordered the other offenders to hand over all items recovered from them to the Nigerian federal government and to return the various victims.
