The popular TikTok musician Crown Uzama, also known as Shalli Popi and Miller Maxwell, has been convicted for internet fraud. He is one of six people convicted by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in a case that saw them facing a one-count charge of criminal impersonation.

The charges were brought under Sections 142 (1), 57, and 308 of the Kaduna Penal Code Law, 2017, and are punishable under Section 309 of the same law. The other defendants in the case are Joel Kator (aka Alfred Hudson), Abdul-Azeez Suleiman Temidayo (aka Miss Katie Official), Favour Chidiogo Emmanuel (aka Kate Banks), John Joseph (aka Avail Hollywood), and Bethel Makuochukwu (aka Violetqmartinez).

All six of the defendants pleaded guilty to the charges against them. They were convicted by Justice A. A. Isiaka, who sentenced them each to two years imprisonment, with the option of fines. They were also ordered to forfeit all electronic gadgets, furniture, and other items that were recovered from them to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The case against the defendants was initiated after intelligence was received by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the EFCC. The subsequent investigation revealed that the group had impersonated foreign nationals and used false identities to defraud unsuspecting victims.

This case is just one example of the dangers of internet fraud and the importance of vigilance when using the internet. With the rise of social media and online commerce, it’s easier than ever for fraudsters to take advantage of unsuspecting victims. However, cases like this demonstrate that they will be brought to justice in the end.

It’s important for everyone to be aware of the risk of fraud when using the internet, and to take steps to protect themselves. This includes using strong passwords, avoiding suspicious emails and websites, and being wary of unsolicited messages and phone calls from strangers.

By remaining vigilant and taking these steps, we can all do our part to help protect ourselves and others from falling prey to internet fraudsters.
