Tinubu and Kwankwaso: A Look at Two Political Powerhouses in Nigeria

Nigeria, just like any other country in the world, has its fair share of political heavyweights who have made significant contributions to the country’s politics. As far as political powerhouses go, two names that come to mind are Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, popularly referred to as Jagaban, is a former governor of Lagos state and a prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He played a pivotal role in the formation of the party in 2013 and is widely regarded as the party’s national leader. On the other hand, Rabiu Kwankwaso is a former governor of Kano state and a member of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Despite their political differences, these two politicians have a lot in common. Both men have risen to the top of Nigerian politics through sheer determination and hard work. Tinubu’s rise to political prominence began in 1993 when he was elected to the Nigerian Senate. He later went on to become the governor of Lagos state from 1999 to 2007. Kwankwaso, on the other hand, served as the governor of Kano state from 1999 to 2003 and from 2011 to 2015.

One of the reasons why Tinubu and Kwankwaso are so influential is their ability to mobilize support from their respective political bases. Tinubu has a massive following in Lagos state, thanks to his many years of service as the state’s governor.

His knack for building a political structure that can deliver victories at the polls has earned him the nickname ‘Jagaban.’ Similarly, Kwankwaso is a popular figure in Kano state, and his supporters refer to him as ‘Kwankwasiyya,’ which means ‘the Kwankwaso movement.’

Another factor that sets Tinubu and Kwankwaso apart is their formidable political networks. Tinubu has been able to build a vast coalition of politicians and interests across the country, which has helped keep him relevant in Nigerian politics. Similarly, Kwankwaso has a network of loyalists that cuts across the political divide in Kano state.

In conclusion, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Rabiu Kwankwaso are undoubtedly two of the most influential politicians in Nigeria. Their political careers have spanned several decades, and their contributions to Nigerian politics cannot be ignored.

While they may sit on opposite sides of the political divide, one cannot deny the impact they have had on Nigerian politics. As Nigeria’s political landscape continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how these two powerhouse politicians continue to shape the country’s political discourse.
